1. CENTRE OF STUDIES FOR ARCHITECTURE 

 

OVERVIEW

Malaysia has observed a fast growth after independence and many of her architecture designs are the best examples which have been declared worldwide.
Malaysian architecture encompasses many different elements and factors such as topography, climate, economy, lifestyle, material availability and religion
preferences influenced the structural design in Malaysia. Today, architecture design is frequently based upon modern concerns such as the environment and
must consider the form, texture, structure, space, mass, materials, and cost before designing a building or space. As such an architect must have a good
grasp of mathematics, engineering and science. To open opportunities for the careers in architecture, the Centre of Studies for Architecture, Faculty of
Architecture, Planning and Surveying offers programmes that will fulfill the high demand of professional graduates and provide the nation with human capital
in its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

 

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE (HONS) ARCHITECTURE

The Bachelor of Science (Hons) Architecture is a 4-year full-time programme with a minimum entry requirement of SPM. This is the first of a two-tier
architectural education programme offered with a total of 136 credits, and the curriculum is oriented to produce graduates with skills in design and
architectural technology at semi-professional level. This programme focuses on student essential skills in design as well as the ability to respond to
environmental issues and changes in the future. Emphasis is given to create awareness among students on the importance to strike a balance between the need
to build and the responsibility to minimize impacts of the development on the existing natural and social environments. Students are also encouraged to
create innovative solutions to design problems within the cultural and regional context in their studio projects. This aspiration is reflected in the
curriculum design whereby a considerable balance is given on the aspects of science, technology and culture in design. This will expand the students’ sense
of responsibility towards making architecture that cares for the current and future generations. Graduates of the programme have the opportunity to serve the
public and private sectors. Graduates may work as an architect’s technical assistant or designer in the private sector, or a development officer in the
public sector. Alternatively, graduates can pursue their studies and enrol in the Master of Architecture offered by the Faculty, local or universities
abroad.
This programme is accredited by the Board of Architects Malaysia (LAM) with exemptions from LAM Part 1 examination and the Public Service Department Malaysia
(JPA). It is also validated by The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) with exemption from RIBA Part 1.

MASTER OF ARCHITECTURE

The Master of Architecture is a 2-year full-time taught programme with a total of 62 credits. It is design to produce graduates with critical thinking
skills and competency in various specialized areas in architecture. The acquisition and advancement of knowledge in this programme is through studio-based
learning, based on critique sessions, reviews, seminars and one-to-one tutorial, combined with classroom-based courses. This is further enhanced by the
involvement of practitioners and industry professionals in various studio programmes. This provides an avenue for the programme to be continuously updated
with current development and technology in the industry. The comprehensive studio projects are designed to become the platform which integrates knowledge in
the core courses, and also brings architectural and engineering disciplines together. The programme is supported with digital computer laboratories to
enhance student output. The programme places design, research and scholarship in the forefront of its curriculum to prepare students for careers as
professionals in the building industry as well as opportunity in academia invariably, through advancement to doctoral degrees. The graduates of the
programmes will become part of national human capital who will contribute to future development and nation building.

2. CENTRE OF STUDIES FOR BUILDING SURVEYING

 

OVERVIEW

Building Surveying/Facility Management is a rapidly growing profession in both public and private sectors in Malaysia and their services are highly sought in
areas of development and maintenance. The profession that encompasses multiple disciplines ensure functionality of the built environment by integrating
people, place, process and technology. Their scope ranges from the design of large structures to, provide advises on building condition/ defects,
alterations, extensions, maintenance and repairs of existing building. Building surveyors often work on preventative measures to keep buildings in good
condition and sustainable. They are trained in the techniques and law of building construction and working with buildings of architectural or historic
importance. The main roles and responsibility covers the areas of Building Control, Maintenance and Conservation of Building and Building Performance and
Audit. They are required not only at tactical and operational level, but also at the strategy level. To address the government initiatives towards high
quality buildings, the Centre of Studies for Building Surveying, Faculty of Architecture, Planning and Surveying has embarked its programmes to cater the
needs of building surveyors in Malaysia at diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate levels.


DIPLOMA IN BUILDING SURVEYING

Diploma in Building Surveying is a 3-year full-time programme, with a minimum entry requirement of SPM having a total of 90 credits. This programme is
designed to facilitate upgrading and mobility of professionals and para-professionals working in the built environment disciplines, to be more informed and
effective contribution in their employment through the development of appropriate skills, knowledge and understanding. The areas of concern include material
properties, building surveying, building services, environmental technology, building law contract and construction management, building maintenance,
building design and integrated project. The programme is designed to include an industrial training session of one semester, as an attempt to expose students
to actual working environment which will further develop their technical and personal skills. Students are attached to public and private sector,
consultants, building and maintenance firms and other related firms.
Outcome based education (OBE) is a key teaching element of the courses. The approach to teaching utilises the relevant skills and values currently acquired
through construction industry experience. Students will learn by working through a series of learning problems focusing on contemporary and relevant practice
related issues. Graduates from this programme are qualified to work as building surveyor, building inspector, certifier or technical assistants in both
public and private sectors. Based on their entrepreneurial, technical and soft skill acquired they can set up their own business. Alternatively, candidates
can pursue their studies and enrol in the Bachelor Degree programmes offered by the faculty, local or universities abroad.

This programme is fully recognized by the Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia and the Public Service Department Malaysia (JPA).

BACHELOR OF BUILDING SURVEYING (HONS)

Bachelor of Building Surveying is a 3-year full-time programme, with an entry from STPM/Matriculation certificates and two years professional programme for
candidates who had successfully completed the three years Diploma in Building Surveying programme at UiTM or any recognised institutions. The programme with
a total of 120 credits focuses on building a knowledge and skills that prepare students for a wide range of possible graduate occupations in the building
industry specifically in areas relating to project and construction management, maintenance and repair of building, refurbishment and restoration of old
properties, building law and regulation, demolition works and property development. This programme prepares graduates for a building surveying profession
which, with its broad-based education and training encompassing physical and social sciences, is well placed to provide, directly and indirectly, an ever-
increasing range of services to those seeking to develop and utilise building assets.
Outcome based education (OBE) through blended learning and on-site study are utilised and provides students with the skills and knowledge needed to operate
effectively across a number of roles in the building and construction industry. The programme incorporates a variety of related courses to demonstrate the
interrelationships involved in the building process that students would expect to encounter in the building construction workplace.
Students will develop in-depth technical knowledge of building surveying and will be able to operate independently as a professional within this field. The
program's strong on-site study and building discipline focus will assist students in meeting the academic requirements for membership of relevant
professional bodies in the building sector.

Public Service Department Malaysia (JPA).

MASTER OF SCIENCE IN FACILITIES MANAGEMENT

The Master of Science in Facilities Management is a 1 ½ years full-time and 2 years part-time with a total of 40 credits and consisting of 10 core courses.
This programme is designed to prepare students specifically for a career in facilities management. This program provides students with the knowledge and
skills necessary to succeed in a variety of senior facilities management and leadership positions. The body of knowledge required for facilities management
master programs includes areas of study in Facilities Management, Sustainable Facilities Management, Human Resource and Organisational Behaviour, Strategic
and Risk Management, Budgetary Control and Financial Management, Facilities, Planning and Management, Maintenance Management, Value Management, Building
Audit and Services, and Environmental Management. The acquisition and advancement of knowledge in this programme is through reviews, seminars, problem-based
learning, work-based projects and classroom-based courses. This is further enhanced by the involvement of practitioners and industry professionals. The
programme places research and scholarship in the forefront of its curriculum to prepare students for careers as professionals in the Facilities Management as
well as opportunity in academia invariably, through advancement to doctoral degrees.

3. CENTRE OF STUDIES FOR CONSTRUCTION

 

OVERVIEW

Modern construction is a complex and highly organised business that deals with large investments, advanced construction techniques, highly skilled labour and
updated procurement methods. As the construction industry becomes more advanced and complex, its challenges in planning, designing, construction,
commissioning continues to test the capabilities of the experts in the field. To develop a broad education in the academic disciplines related to
construction, the Centre of Studies for Construction, Faculty of Architecture Planning and Surveying offers programmes that fulfill the high demand of
professionals in the construction sectors in its diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.


DIPLOMA IN BUILDING

Diploma in Building is a 3-year full-time programme, with a minimum entry requirement of SPM having a total of 90 credits. This programme is designed to
provide sufficient and strong fundamental in building construction which include courses such as Building Construction, Structures, Site Surveying, Building
Services, Building Law, Builders Quantities and Estimating, Building Economics, Building Materials and Construction Health and Safety. The aim of the course
is to produce graduates with competencies needed for careers in construction. The programme focuses on courses related to developing the core competencies
required at supervisory level such as site management and contract administration. The programme is designed to include an industrial training session of 20
weeks, as an attempt to expose students to actual working environment which will further develop their technical and personal skills. Students are attached
to construction related and consultation firms.

Graduates from this programme are qualified to work as technical assistants in public and site supervisors in private sector. With their technical and
transferable skills, graduates can also embark on entrepreneurial activities. Alternatively, candidates can pursue their studies and enrol in the Bachelor
Degree programmes offered by the faculty, local or universities abroad.

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE (HONS) CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT

Bachelor of Science (Hons) Construction Management is a 3 ½-year full-time and 5-year part-time programme with an entry from STPM/Matriculation certificates
and two years professional programme for candidates who had successfully completed the three years Diploma in Building at UiTM. This programme with a total
of 137 credits is aimed at two main domains, that is, technical knowledge and competencies, and generic skills which are intended to produce graduates with
competencies needed for careers in construction management, project management and other related construction fields.
The first year covers the fundamental principles of construction technology, economics, measurement and estimating, site surveying, communication and
computer skills, and construction health and safety. The second year builds on these modules with greater emphasis on their application to the construction
industry such as law, management and the scientific and technical principles of building design and construction. The third year focuses on project
planning, project finance, project management and courses to prepare graduates for a career leading to a senior management position in the related
disciplines. Candidates are required to take elective courses relevant to the professional pathway they wish to follow. The transferable skills that
graduate have acquired during the degree course, gives opportunities for graduates to be employed in diverse and interesting range of activities outside
construction management to complement the industry. Graduate from this programme are highly sought after as project managers, site managers, construction
managers, project coordinators and development managers. The programme places research and scholarship in the forefront of its curriculum to prepare students
for careers as professionals in the construction industry.

The degree programme is fully accredited by The Chartered Institute of Building, UK and recognized by the Public Service Department Malaysia (JPA).

MASTER OF SCIENCE IN INTEGRATED CONSTRUCTION PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Master of Science in Integrated Construction Project Management is a full-time 1 ½ years and 2 years part-time programme with a total of 45 credits and
consisting of 10 core courses and 2 electives. This programme is designed to produce graduates with critical thinking skills and competency in various areas
of specialisation of construction namely: Construction and Project Management; Strategic Management of Construction Firms, International Construction and IT
in Constructions. The acquisition and advancement of knowledge in this programme is through reviews, seminars, problem-based learning, work-based projects
and classroom-based courses. This is further enhanced by the involvement of practitioners and industry professionals. This programme prepares for senior
positions in government and project based organizations, whilst also enabling technical managers to improve their project management skills and gain a broad
functional and strategic perspective on general management. The programme places research and scholarship in the forefront of its curriculum to prepare
students for careers as professional contract managers as well as opportunity in academia invariably, through advancement to doctoral degrees.

4. CENTRE OF STUDIES FOR ESTATE MANAGEMENT

 

OVERVIEW

The real estate market encompasses a diverse range of residential, commercial and industrial land and property. Real estate professional identifies long-term
value in properties, negotiate prices and ensure that deals go through for its client. They advise on a quite a broad term for a number of areas that
include property management, surveying, business and finance and the built environment. They are the adviser and advocate during the entire home buying
process. In today’s real estate scenario, new approaches need to be adopted to meet the challenges of expanding globally and achieving sustainable growth in
the property market. To accelerate the development of the country and to ensure that the ambition of being a fully-developed nation by 2020 is fully
realized, the Malaysian Government has a whole range of plans and schemes in placed. Among those was the revision of the rate of Real Property Gains Tax
(RPGT) imposed on both the local and foreign property buyers alike. To understand the insight into the breadth and depth of the property sector in a broader
perspective, the Centre of Studies for Estate Management, Faculty of Architecture, Planning and Surveying has embarked its programmes to cater the needs of
property managers in Malaysia at diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

 

DIPLOMA IN ESTATE MANAGEMENT

Diploma in Estate Management is a 3-year full-time study, with a minimum entry requirement of SPM having a total of 95 credits. This programme provides the
foundation knowledge and skills needed by property professionals. It is designed to provide students with learning components and strong fundamental in the
areas of real estate valuation, estate agency, building technology, economics, property law and property management. To produce graduates with competencies
needed for careers, the programme focuses on courses related to developing the core competencies required at supervisory level such as the practice of
property valuation. The programme includes an industrial training session as an attempt to expose students to actual working environment which will further
develop their technical and personal skills. Students are attached to property related and consultation firms.

Graduate from this programme are qualified to work as assistant valuer and estate agent in both public and private sectors. Graduates of diploma programme
are exempted from examinations required for professional membership of BOVAEA as registered estate agent. Alternatively, candidates can pursue their studies
and enrol in the Bachelor Degree programmes offered by the faculty, local or universities abroad.

This programme is recognised by the Board of Valuers, Appraisers and Estate Agents (BOVAEA) and the Public Service Department Malaysia (JPA).

This programme is offered in Perak campus only.

 

BACHELOR OF ESTATE MANAGEMENT (HONS)

Bachelor of Estate Management is a 3 ½-year programme with an entry from STPM/Matriculation certificates and two years professional programme for candidates
who had successfully completed the three years Diploma in Estate Management at UiTM. This programme consisting of 130 credits covers areas that concern with
real estate and built environment such as property valuation, property management, property development, property agency, property laws, corporate real
estate management and investment, economics and urban planning. The curriculum is oriented to produce graduates with skills as well as the ability to respond
to the dynamics of the property market, including sound knowledge of valuation and appraisal techniques.

Graduates from this programme may join the public service as a Valuation Officers in the Valuation and Property Services Department, Ministry of Finance as
Valuation Officers. For private sectors, graduates may be employed as executive in property management and valuation for company, property developers,
corporate sectors and Real Estate Fund Management (REITs) companies. Graduates are exempted from the examinations required for professional membership of
BOVAEA as registered valuers and Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) as a Chartered member.

The programme is accredited by the Malaysia Qualification Accreditation Agency (MQA), the Board of Valuers, Appraisers and Estate Agents Malaysia (BOVAEA)
and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, UK (RICS). It is also recognized by the Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia (RISM), the Malaysia
Institute of Estate Agents (MIEA) and the Malaysia Institute of Professional Property Managers (MIPPM).

MASTER OF PROPERTY INVESTMENT

Master of Property Investment is a 1 ½ -year full-time and 2 years part-time programme with a total of 40 credits consisting of 11 courses and 2 electives.
This programme is designed to produce graduates with critical thinking skills and competency in various areas of specialisation and analysing the complex
interactions and the dynamics of the property market. This programme covers the main areas of Property Investment from Investment Market, Analysis,
Portfolio, Accounting, Finance, Economics and Marketing. It is a balance between theoretical, practical and management skills relevant to the field of
property investment.

This programme focuses on the professional and industrial relevance. Graduates from this programme are trained in pursuing a career as managers and
chartered surveyor focus on property valuation, development, management or investment. The programme places research and scholarship in the forefront of its
curriculum to prepare students for careers as professionals in the in real estate as well as opportunity in academia invariably, through advancement to
doctoral degrees.

5. CENTRE OF STUDIES FOR INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE

 

OVERVIEW

Interior architecture combines the study and practice of interior design with architecture. An interior designer evaluates and designs interior living and
work spaces to make them functional, appealing and well-suited to a client’s needs. With an increasing number of development and construction, interior
architects have also to play major roles in the country's development in designing home interior spaces that magnifies ideas and concepts in all phases from
initializing concepts, selecting home furnishings, fabrics and appliances, remodeling and new construction to the final installation. To open opportunities
for the careers in interior architecture, the Centre of Studies for Interior Architecture, Faculty of Architecture, Planning and Surveying offers programmes
that will fulfil the high demand of professional graduates and embraces the associated realms of interior architecture, interior design and contemporary
visual culture in its diploma and undergraduate programmes.

 

DIPLOMA IN INTERIOR DESIGN

Diploma in Interior Design is a 3-year full-time programme with a minimum entry requirement of SPM having a total of 92 credits. This programme provides a
creative and unique blend of knowledge and skills needed to prepare students for employment in the areas of interior design. The programme exposes an
exciting and challenging range of professional skills which focus on drawing, making and thinking. Practical design knowledge is delivered in the design
studio, where design creativity, space making are focus. It covers a wide range of courses namely: Architectural drafting, Building Construction and
Materials, History of Western and Eastern Art, Furniture Design, Professional Practices and Environmental Psychology. The programme is designed to include an
industrial training session of one semester, as an attempt to expose students to actual working environment which will further develop their technical and
personal skills. Students are attached to public and private sector, consultants and other related firms.

Graduate from this programme are qualified to work as design assistants in both public and private sectors. Based upon their entrepreneurial, technical and
soft skill acquired they can set up their own business. Alternatively, candidates can pursue their studies and enrol in the Bachelor Degree programmes
offered by the faculty, local or universities abroad.

BACHELOR OF INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE (HONS)

Bachelor of Interior Architecture is a 4-year programme with an entry from STPM/Matriculation certificates and two years professional programme for
candidates who had successfully completed the three years Diploma in Interior Design programme at UiTM. The programme with a total of 140 credits is oriented
to produce graduates with skills in design and be able to create a well-designed interior space for human activities such as working, recreation,
entertaining, shopping and living. The programme is designed to develop rational, analytical and innovative approaches to the solution of interior and
spatial design problems. The assessment is based on coursework involving a wide range of individual and group projects, presentation, 2D and 3D image
generation and modeling, seminars, and a written dissertation. In tandem with the growth in the building industry, graduates from this programme are able to
develop and further assist the industry in planning and designing the built environment that may answer and satisfy the human needs. The profession was
legislated under the Architects Act 1969 (Pindaan 2007). Graduates may be employed as interior designer consultants at architects firm, interior design firm,
building contractors and developers. Based upon their entrepreneurial, technical and soft skill acquired they can set up their own business.

This programme is fully regulated by the Malaysian Institute of Interior Designers (MIID) under the Board of Architects Malaysia (LAM – Lembaga Arkitek
Malaysia), and accredited by the Council for Architectural Accreditation and Education Malaysia (CAAEM).

6. CENTRE OF STUDIES FOR LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE

 

OVERVIEW

With an increasing number of development and construction, landscape architects have also to play major roles in the country's development by ensuring that
every development is done according to principles that ensure harmony between human needs and the well-being of the environment. In addition, the Landscape
Architecture profession in Malaysia shared a passion for organising and developing green spaces. They are responsible to plan, design and manage landscapes
towards establishing a quality, healthy and balance environment for human needs. Addressing the country’s landscape architecture agenda towards
sustainability and the conservation of the country's cultural, as well as geographical diversity, the Centre of Studies for Landscape Architecture, Faculty
of Architecture, Planning and Surveying offers programmes for diploma and undergraduates levels comprehensively designed so as to produce graduates who are
competence in carrying out the professional task of a landscape architects.

 

DIPLOMA IN LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE

Diploma in Landscape Architecture programme is a 3-year full-time programme with a minimum entry requirement of SPM having a total of 93 credits. This
progrmme focuses on the skills of the students who will be the assistants to the Landscape Architects. It is oriented to produce graduates with scientific
logic, aesthetic sensibilities, visual communication skills, and technical competency that will intensify their employability. Those who have successfully
completed the Diploma in Landscape Architecture may apply for continuing their education in the Bachelor of Landscape Architecture or any related programmes
at UiTM or they are eligible to work as the Assistant Landscape Architect in the government or private sectors. Some of the potential job markets in the
industries that the graduates may involve are housing developers, landscape consultants, landscape contractors and nurseries, and other build-environment
related companies. Alternatively, candidates can pursue their studies and enrol in the Bachelor Degree programmes offered by the faculty, local or
universities abroad.

This programme is recognized by the Institute of Landscape Architects Malaysia (ILAM) the Public Service Department Malaysia (JPA).

BACHELOR OF LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE (HONS)

The Bachelor of Landscape Architecture programme is a four-year full-time programme with an entry from STPM/Matriculation certificates and two years
professional programme for candidates who had successfully completed the three years diploma in Landscape Architecture programme at UiTM. The programme with
a total of 131 credits aims to train students towards competent and professional landscape architects who specialized in landscape architecture projects and
having managerial skills. The course structure of the landscape architecture program is organized into seven strands: Construction, Planning and Design,
Plants and Horticultural Sciences, Planting Design, Land and Environmental Science, Humanities, and Trades and Practice. The seven strands are specially
designed to equip our students with strong knowledge and skills and be ready to face the constantly changing working environment especially in the build
environment industry.

In the first year of the program, students will be introduced with the principle and fundamentals of art and design. This includes basic drafting through
both manually and computerized (CAD). All students will be exposed to landscape plant materials and horticultural courses before they can apply them in
their landscape design work at higher semester. Since communication is crucial for landscape architects, students must register for few hours language
enrichment courses offered by the university.

Landscape design work in the second year will focus on community and urban design. These courses extend and expand learning landscape design into a bigger
realm of spatial planning for multiple functions and socio-cultural needs. It is also the application of what they have learned in the previous year (year
one). To enable students to grasp strong foundation in construction, two landscape constructions will be introduced.

The third year students will have the opportunity to explore their creativity in a larger scale of landscape planning work. Geographic Information System
(GIS) course will also be taught in this semester. Students will be able to apply their GIS knowledge in landscape planning studio work. Since landscape
architects are dealing with land and legal matters, courses like land law and regulation, professional practice and ethics will also be taught at this stage.
With these courses, students are well prepared before they go for their practical training next year.

In the first half of the fourth year students are required to do their practical training. Each of the students will be assigned to a selected landscape
company for a period of not less than 14 weeks. At the end of the practical training their work will be reviewed, evaluated and graded. This supervised
practical training is to provide the students with some real working environment outside class room.

In the final semester, and with the help of their practical experience, students may select their own sites with prevalent issues and are expected to
accomplish their studio work independently. Students must be able to present their work and ideas convincingly. Students’ critical thinking is the paramount
important in the presentation of the final project. A project report is a must prior graduation. As the department’s normal practice, this terminal project
will be reviewed and evaluated by professional juries from various agencies.

Graduates from this programme may work in the government as well as private sectors.

7. CENTRE OF STUDIES FOR PARKS AND AMENITY MANAGEMENT

 

OVERVIEW

In tandem with two prong strategic plans of Malaysia's five year development planning, it was stipulated in the plan to possess parks in urban areas whereby
instilling positive and healthy lifestyle among the citizen. Therefore, the Centre of Studies for Park and Amenity Management, Faculty of Architecture,
Planning and Survey has embarked its programme to cater the needs of park managers in Malaysia.
The establishment of this premier programme ever since its first intake in 2001 has shown a tremendous change of park managers profession in the Malaysian
context and in the global arena as a whole. The impetus programme offers a wide range of fascinating and exuberating parks and recreation activities for
those who loved and enjoyed challenging activities, experiencing exciting and robust lifestyle, and indulge with interesting people.
The programme offers an array of inspiring student-environment based of real life projects such as creating information trails in equatorial rainforest,
engaging with indigenous people (orang asli tribes e.g. Batik, Temiar, Semai) in their holy ancestral land, involving with high adrenalin activities in one
of the prominent theme parks in the country or creating pivotal events for the unfortunate children in the vicinity of the local parks.


BACHELOR OF PARKS AND AMENITY MANAGEMENT (HONS)

Bachelor of Parks and Amenity Management is a 3 year full-time programme offered at UiTM Shah Alam with a minimum requirement of STPM/Matriculation or direct
entry from Diploma programme. The programme with a total of 128 credits covers a comprehensive topics in parks, amenity and recreation management.
Theoretical and analytical approaches will be thought in solving parks and amenities management problems.

The first year provides comprehensive foundation knowledge in parks and leisure, art of appreciation, plant identification and construction materials,
natural resources, human behaviour, park planning and design. Field trips will be organized for plant identification activities and parks visiting to enhance
the students understanding.

In the second year, emphasis is given to management issues: parks, facility, financial and human needs. They will be introduced to Geographical Information
System and by-laws. The real-life project commenced during the second year in the studio. Students in group will be engaged with parks’ environment and
initiate future plans for park users.

In the final year, the programme focuses more on courses related to life projects in the studio and strengthens their knowledge on management of the
protected sites, information system, seminar papers and dissertation. Apart from attending routine lectures, the final year students are required to produce
a high quality dissertation as a partial requirement for the degree award.

Graduates of the programme will be employed as park, recreation or amenities managers. Among other employers require for professional park managers are
housing developers, travel and tour agencies, resort, golf course, theme parks, state parks and other related industries.

This programme is recognised by Public Service Department Malaysia (JPA).

8. CENTRE OF STUDIES FOR QUANTITY SURVEYING

 

OVERVIEW

The profession of quantity surveying has evolved since it was developed during the 19th century from the "measurer", who prepared standardised schedules for
a building project in which all of the construction materials, labour activities were quantified, and manage tendering process submitted by the tenderers.
Nowadays, the scope of a quantity surveyor not only limited to the regular practices of measurement, tendering or estimating but there are many areas of
specialization and services in which a quantity surveyor may concentrate. Services such as risk management, project management, arbitration, feasibility
study, construction financial practice are some of the services revolve due to the changing construction industry trend. A Quantity Surveyor is adequately
trained to advise on all aspects of construction management, professional practice, construction economics, construction technology and contractual
administration. To open opportunities for the careers in quantity surveying, the Centre of Studies for Quantity Surveying, Faculty of Architecture, Planning
and Surveying offers diploma and undergraduates programmes that will provide an understanding of the techniques which determine building cost and price as
well as the ability to apply and adapt the techniques to suit the form of contract or work being undertaken, and understanding of the delivery process as
well as the social and economic context of building production.

 

DIPLOMA IN QUANTITY SURVEYING

Diploma in Quantity Surveying is a 3-year full-time programme with a minimum entry requirement of SPM having a total of 95 credits. This programme aims to
provide education in areas related to the construction industry, and leads to a semi-professional qualification in quantity surveying. The Diploma is
concerned with the management of all aspects of the construction process, including measurement of construction works, construction technology, project
management, construction economics, construction law, building services and professional practice. It delivers all the recognized competencies for
construction semi-professionals while developing graduates who have the capability to satisfy the traditional, niche and large firms of quantity surveyors,
requirement of local government, developers and contracting organizations. Graduate from this programme is referred to as Assistant Quantity Surveyor, a
semi-professional, who is qualified and adequately trained to support the duties of a Professional Quantity Surveyor, which include giving advice on all
aspects of construction management, professional practice, construction economics, construction technology and contractual administration. Alternatively,
candidates can pursue their studies and enrol in the Bachelor Degree programmes offered by the faculty, local or universities abroad.

The programme is jointly accredited by the Board of Quantity Surveyors Malaysia and the Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia and fully recognized by the
Public Service Department Malaysia (JPA).

This programme is offered in Perak and Sarawak campuses.


BACHELOR OF QUANTITY SURVEYING (HONS)

Bachelor of Quantity Surveying is a 3-year full-time programme, or 4 ½ part-time basis with an entry from STPM/Matriculation certificates and two years
professional programme for candidates who had successfully completed the three years diploma in Quantity Surveying programme at UiTM. The programme
consisting of 120 credits is designed to enable to undertake a wide variety of tasks involved in a construction project in primary concerned with the
financial and contractual arrangements of building projects from the inception to completion stage and include the latest developments in Building
Information Modelling (BIM) and sustainability. To ensure that the students have the appropriate skills and to develop the expertise in the practice of
quantity surveying, the programme includes industrial placement. Graduates from this programme have excellent and wide-ranging employment opportunities with
both public and private sectors organizations in the construction industry. The nature of work performed by the graduates within these organizations varies
and may range from feasibility studies, cost planning, tender and contract management, construction economics and project management.

This programme is accredited by the Board of Quantity Surveyors Malaysia (BQSM) and by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), UK, and fully
recognized by the Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia and the Public Service Department Malaysia (JPA).

9. CENTRE OF STUDIES FOR SURVEYING SCIENCE AND GEOMATICS

 

OVERVIEW

Advancements in technology have changed the nature of surveying and mapping. Today, geomatics professionals use an integrated approach to measuring,
analyzing and managing spatial data, employing high-tech equipment like Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Global Positioning Systems (GPS), digital
photogrammetry, digital total stations, satellite and terrestrial remote sensing to create a detailed but understandable picture of the Earth's natural and
manmade features. The Centre of Studies for Surveying Science and Geomatics, Faculty of Architecture, Planning and Surveying, offers programmes that leads to
engaging an interesting, challenging and professional career in Land Surveying and Geomatics at diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate level. The programmes
emphasize on the study of science and technology of measurement, mapping, visualization and management of spatial data on, above, below the land and sea
surface. Students shall be provided with the opportunity to acquire knowledge and skills in modern, sophisticated and fast-growing technologies such as the
Global Positioning System (GPS), three dimensional computer visualizations, geographic information systems (GIS), land and sea surveying systems,
photogrammetry, remote sensing and digital image processing systems. The Centre is committed in providing sound education and training towards transforming
to having a better future ahead.

 

DIPLOMA IN GEOMATIC SCIENCE

Diploma in Geomatic Science is a 3-year full-time programme with a total of 95 credits and having a minimum entry requirement of SPM. This programme aims to
produce graduates who have sound knowledge in geo-measurement, processing, interpretation, analysis and presentation of land based spatial information. The
program is structured with the theory directly linked to the practical work using high-technology electronic equipment. The first year of the Diploma
programme provides a comprehensive foundation in surveying with courses such as mathematics, physics, field astronomy and cadastral. In the second year,
emphasis is given to surveying engineering courses with inclusive of law and geodetic. The final year students are allow to choose courses relevant to the
professional pathway they wish to follow. These are either GIS or cadastral or remote sensing.

Graduates of the program can readily assume useful roles in surveying profession. Graduates may have career flexibility either to work outdoors or in the
office. They may work as technical assistants, assistant surveyors, and assistant land administrative or assistant managers in many different areas in the
government or in the private sectors including the surveying and property development, building construction, cadastral, mining industries, engineering and
hydrographic surveying. Examples of potential employers may include the Department of Mapping and Surveying Malaysia (JUPEM), the Ministry of Defense,
Licensed Land Surveying companies, other surveying–related firms, construction companies, Local Councils, Development and Property Division of the State
Economic and Planning Unit, geospatial science industry and the Institutions of Higher Learning. Alternatively, candidates can pursue their studies and enrol
in the Bachelor Degree programmes offered by the faculty, local or universities abroad.

This program is recognized by the Public Services Department (JPA), The Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia (RISM) and Land Surveyors Board Peninsula
Malaysia.

BACHELOR OF SURVEYING SCIENCE AND GEOMATICS (HONS)

Bachelor of Surveying Science and Geomatics is a 3 ½ years full-time programme with an entry from STPM/Matriculation certificates and two years professional
programme for candidates who had successfully completed the three years Diploma in Geomatic Science at UiTM. Having a total of 138 credit, the programme
emphasizes on the study of science and technology of measurement, mapping, visualization and management of spatial data on, above, below the land and sea
surface. Students shall be provided with the opportunity to acquire knowledge and skills in modern, sophisticated and fast-growing technologies such as the
Global Positioning System (GPS), three dimensional computer visualizations, geographic information systems (GIS), land and sea surveying systems,
photogrammetry, remote sensing and digital image processing systems.

Outcome-based teaching and learning in Geomatics and Land Surveying are implemented as well as active research are focus as to keep abreast with the
technological change and demands in Geomatics and Geospatial Industry locally, regionally and internationally.
Development of good inter and intra-personal skills amongst students is anticipated through team-based project work, problem-solving and industry interaction
and collaboration, with internship opportunities available to students with selected firms and government departments and agencies.

Upon the successful completion of the undergraduate degree programme, graduates have the opportunity in his/her career option to become a Licensed Land
Surveyor. This specialized professional training has to be undertaken and registered with the Peninsular Malaysia Land Surveyor’s Board. Apart from that,
graduates would have the choice to be able to work at private firms and government departments and agencies as land surveyors and geospatial practitioners as
well as academia in public and private institution of higher learning locally and abroad. Graduates may also pursue their studies at postgraduate level and
may do so by enrolling into the coursework master’s degree in GIS.

MASTER OF SCIENCE IN GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION SCIENCE

The Master of Geographical Information Science is a 1-year full-time or 2-year part-time programme with a total of 40 credits consisting of 11 core courses
and 2 electives. This programme is designed to provide an intensive educational opportunity designed to equip students either for a career in the
Geographical Information industry or as a researcher. This programme is designed to allow a variety of candidates, including those already in the GIS/ remote
sensing industry, and those who would like to acquire GIS knowledge and practical experience to complement their existing specialization. This programme
aims to develop a range of transferable skills, in particular to encourage sound judgment on project feasibility and a structured approach, and problem
solving through extended project work. The latter will also ensure a strong relationship between theory and a wide range of possible applications. All
subjects to be introduced to students encompass theory based and industry-input based.
The programme places research and scholarship in the forefront of its curriculum to prepare students for careers as professionals in GIS as well as
opportunity in academia invariably, through advancement to doctoral degrees in the specialism of Geomatics or Geospatial Science and Technology such as
Geodesy and GNSS, Hydrography and Oceanography, Remote sensing, GIS, Cadastre and Land Development and etc.

10. CENTRE OF STUDIES FOR TOWN AND REGIONAL PLANNING

 

OVERVIEW

Town and regional planning is about improving the quality of cities and regions. Planning is a systematic and creative way to influence the future of
neighbourhoods, cities, suburbs and rural areas. Town planners are responsible in ensuring that cities, towns and regions have vibrant economies and
communities, providing a high quality of life and promote sustainability. This involves in making cities, towns and regions that are visually appealing,
ecologically sustainable, socially inclusive, efficient and economically productive. Ideas and concepts such as sustainability, urban governance, and
regional economic development are also addressed in planning design. To open opportunities for the careers in Town and Regional Planning, the Centre of
Studies for Town and Regional Planning, Faculty of Architecture, Planning and Surveying offers programmes that will fulfill the high demand of professional
planners and provide the nation with human capital in its diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.


DIPLOMA IN TOWN AND REGIONAL PLANNING

Diploma in Town and Regional Planning is a 3-year full-time programme, with a minimum entry requirement of SPM having a total of 91 credits. This programme
teaches about where development should or should not happen and how it affects the quality of our surroundings. It is a programme that draws from the
various social science disciplines as well as arts and humanities. Hence, the Diploma in Town and Regional Planning is an excellent preparation focusing on
the development of technical skills, competency in quantitative and qualitative methods and the knowledge in planning principles. This programme, therefore,
requires the knowledge of planning philosophy, analytical methods, problem formulation and resolution and the related law and legislations pertaining to town
planning.

During the study, students are required to undertake planning exercises through studio projects and thus expected to apply the theoretical knowledge to the
actual planning situation. The programme also comprises of an industrial training session for one semester as an attempt to expose the students to the actual
planning practice environment which will further develop their technical and personal skills.

Diploma in Town and Regional Planning graduates are qualify to work as Assistant Town Planning Officer in the Departments of Town and Country Planning
(JPBD), Local Authorities and Regional Development Authorities (RDAs). This diploma also opens branches for graduates to work in the private sector as
Assistant Town Planner in Town Planning Consultancy Firms and Computer Based Companies. Alternatively, candidates can pursue their studies and enrol in the
Bachelor Degree programmes offered by the faculty, local universities or universities abroad.

BACHELOR OF TOWN AND REGIONAL PLANNING (HONS)

total of 132 credits. It is the pathway to the professional world of town planning, ensuring professional relevance and excellent employment opportunities.
This programme provides a comprehensive and coherent education in humanities, modern analytical methods, the social sciences and the problem solving
orientation of the professions.

In this programme, graduates learn to design and manage the use of land and natural resources to meet the human need in a sustainable way. It also aims to
prepare graduates to plan large-scale projects such as new cities, suburbs, ports, recreational and industrial areas and transport infrastructure. Students
are exposed from macro planning to micro and will gain an understanding of the key issues in town and regional development at the local, national and
international levels. This includes graduates to work in urban design, transport planning, development evaluation, environmental protection, community
planning, recreational planning and spatial planning. Studio projects and fieldworks are major components in this programme which expose graduates to actual
various planning scenarios in order to build a better understanding of the principles and operation of the planning system in local, national and
international areas. The professional knowledge and skills to work efficiently as a town and regional planner is obtained throughout the programme through
practical training in the public or private sector, outdoor task like site analysis and observation, surveys, individual project and also group work.

Graduates work in a vast range of positions – both within planning and in other sectors where their analytical negotiating and problem solving skills are
valued. This programme addresses the need for educated planners who wish to develop careers in both the public and private sectors. They may work for local
governments in departments of planning, land development, community development, economic development and geographic information support. Whereas, in the
private sector, planning graduates work with engineering and land development companies to assist in the preparation of physical development plans and
policies.

MASTER OF SCIENCE IN URBAN DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGEMENT

The Masters of Science in Urban Development and Management is a full-time 1 year and 2 years part-time programme with a total of 40 credits, 10 core courses
and 2 electives. The primary purpose of this programme is to coach the students into becoming creative planners/urban managers and support those wanting to
work into urban design, planning, management and development sector. It is designed to cater especially for students with relevant professional
qualifications who possess some degree of professional experience.

Urban Planners / Urban Managers develop programmes and policies to guide future growth and redevelopment of urban, suburban and rural communities. Planners
and Managers are concerned with a variety of national policy issues: revitalising deteriorating central cities and depressed rural areas, providing new and
affordable housing, including citizens in decision making, combating population and conserving scarce resources, designing more efficient public services and
solving long-standing problems.

One of the main aims of the programme is to facilitate students develop capacity to look comprehensively into the theory and practice of urban development
and management field. It promotes a deeper understanding of suitable forms of development, rapid urbanisation and encouraging innovation in the policy,
planning and management responding to the economic, social and environmental development of urban area. The acquisition and advancement of knowledge in this
programme is through reviews, seminars, problem-based learning, work-based projects and classroom-based courses. This is further enhanced by the involvement
of practitioners and industrial professionals. It also prepares the senior positions in the government and project based organisations as well as an
opportunity in academic invariable through advancement to doctoral degrees.

ASASI TESL (PI020)

Asasi TESL is a full time preparatory programme to prepare students for entry into B. Ed. (Hons.) TESL programme or other relevant degree programmes at UiTM or other local Public Institutions of Higher Learning (PIHLs). The programme has its roots in UiTM's Pre-TESL programme, a 2 year course to prepare students for UiTM's B. Ed. (Hons) TESL programme.

The duration of the programme is 2 semesters with 50 credits, where students will undergo extensive English language proficiency courses as well as basic introductory courses to English Literature, Drama, Computer Literacy, Malaysian Studies and Principles of Education.

 

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE EDUCATION (HONS.) MATHEMATICS - (ED 249)

The Bachelor of Education (Hons.) Science (Mathematics), a four year programme, is offered by the Faculty of Education , UiTM. This programme emphasizes three content areas, namely, Content Knowledge, Pedagogical Knowledge and Pedagogical Content Knowledge . The programme curriculum is designed according to the requirements of the Ministry of Education and the Malaysian Quality Assurance (MQA).   

Students in Mathematics Education take a common set of core courses, dealing with mathematics content, mathematics education content and education content.  They also select a minor from other areas such as physics, chemistry or biology. They are exposed to various teaching and learning methodologies and knowledge in the mathematics education areas. The teaching and learning methods include lectures, problem-based activities, tutorials, labs, independent learning and computer aided instruction. In addition, students are engaged in a 3 month practicum experience to provide focused opportunities to apply what they learn, in contexts relevant to mathematics education.

Upon graduation, the students of this programme have various career pathways especially in the teaching of mathematics and related subjects (either physics, chemistry or biology) at all levels from secondary school through university. They can serve as Mathematics educators in institutions of education (e.g. public schools, private schools, international schools, private colleges and polytechnics) and industries related to academia. The medium of instruction of all the courses in this programme is English and extra opportunities are provided to enhance student’s communication skills. Graduates are expected to have a good command of the language and possess excellent communication skills as these skills are essential in getting good placement, especially in private and international institutions.  



BACHELOR OF SCIENCE EDUCATION (HONS.) BIOLOGY - ( ED247)

The Bachelor of Science Education (Hons) Biology programme is a four-year undergraduate programme specially tailored to develop knowledgeable, skillful and qualified Bumiputera educators, who can serve both public and private institutions of learning.

Since its inception in 2006, the programme has produced science teachers who have helped enhance the teaching and learning of science and of Biology, in schools and other educational institutions, to be at par with international educational standards.  The curriculum design has within it, knowledge of biology, as well as education-related theories and skills, which also include laboratory skills. In addition to their major subjects, students can choose to minor in one the following areas: chemistry, mathematics or physics. Embedded within the subjects are assignments, hands-on activities and student programmes that hone the students’ critical thinking, inter- and intrapersonal skills and problem solving abilities. Research skills and other generic attributes are also developed throughout this course.

In their final year, students gain richer understanding of the teaching profession as they are exposed to the realities of teaching through the application of content and pedagogical know-how in a 3 month school practicum. Students are also expected to carry out research on teaching and learning during this practicum and the findings are documented toward the production of a final year Academic Exercise (mini-thesis).

Graduates of this programme can hope to seek employment in various educational institutions, local and foreign. These opportunities include full government or government linked schools and institutions of higher learning, as well as those which are privately run. BACHELOR OF EDUCATION (HONS.) TEACHING ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE) - (ED241)

The B. Ed. TESL (Hons) programme is specially tailored to produce knowledgeable, skilful and qualified Bumiputera teachers, in an effort to upgrade the teaching and learning of English in secondary schools and institutions of higher learning.

To achieve this objective, the programme structure which extends to 8 semesters or 4 years concentrates on various areas of education, knowledge competence in English language, methods of teaching and learning as well as teaching practice. During this course students can expect to gain insights on the theories of language acquisition and learning as well as obtain knowledge on well researched past and current methods of teaching the English language. Students also learn the fundamental aspects of teaching and learning material design and production which include e-learning aids, as well as other materials which are consistently relevant to any technological advancement taking place in the local and global contexts.

In a 3 month school practicum which takes place in their final year, students gain richer understanding of the teaching profession as they are exposed to the realities of teaching through the application of content and pedagogical know-how. This practicum sees students being placed in various local secondary schools but in the past, some selected students have also had the chance to experience school placements in other countries such as Indonesia, Vietnam and Japan. During this period, students are also expected to carry out research on teaching and learning and the findings are documented toward the production of a final year Academic Exercise (mini-thesis).

Graduates of this programme can hope to seek employment in various educational institutions, local and foreign. These include full government or government linked schools and institutions of higher learning, as well as those which are privately run. Graduates also have the choice of becoming teacher trainers themselves as this course would have also equipped them with not only content but also sound pedagogical knowledge. The graduates of this programme have also proven to be successful outside of academia, as many have secured jobs in fields such as journalism, publishing, advertising, training and entertainment.

 

BACHELOR OF EDUCATION (HONS.) PHYSICAL AND HEALTH EDUCATION - (ED 246)

The Bachelor of Physical and Health Education programme is a four-year degree programme that is offered for those who wish to pursue their career not only in the teaching line but also other related disciplines in private or government sectors.

The programme prepares students with the knowledge of physical fitness, healthy living practices, sports and games, leisure and recreation, management and other skills necessary for intellectual and skills development based on the philosophy that physical education is an essential aspect of the general education process. Thus, the curriculum is designed to expand knowledge, broaden experiences, enhance skills and practice techniques, gauge specific knowledge, promote health and wellness, enrich awareness and deepen students’ understanding of the overall concept and practices in implementing the philosophy.

Students are also required to engage in physical activity, games, sport and outdoor recreation, and to present, plan, organize and evaluate activities and programmes as part of their assessment as an individual as well as team performance. They also learn that the development of physical capacity in areas such as strength, flexibility and endurance are related to both fitness and physical performance. Further, the involvement in various activities helps to contribute to a sense of community and social connectedness as part of important components of improved wellbeing.

Upon completion of this programme, graduates can seek employment in various educational institutions, local and foreign. These include full government or government linked schools and institutions of higher learning, as well as those which are privately run. Graduates also have the choice of becoming teacher trainers themselves as this course would have also equipped them with not only content but also sound pedagogical knowledge. However, given the current scenario where healthy living is more widely emphasized than before, the graduates of this programme are proving to be valuable assets to industries other than academia, as many graduates are now employed as sport coaches and gym instructors.

The medium of instruction is English and the Faculty of Education provides avenues for students seeking to improve their language skills which will aid greatly in their studies.

 

BACHELOR OF EDUCATION (HONS) ART AND DESIGN EDUCATION - (ED 242)

The Bachelor of Education (Hons.) in Art and Design Education is a four-year degree programme offered to those who wish to pursue their career not only in teaching and other academic disciplines in private or governmental sectors, but also of entrepreneurial orientation and in corporate agencies.   It complies with the requirements set by the Ministry of Education and aspires to produce high quality Visual Art Education teachers in secondary schools and related institutions.

The programme aims to equip pre-service teachers who are highly knowledgeable in both content and skill-based domains.  The major component of this programme prepares students for in-depth studio experiences through various media forms and techniques.  These include aspects related to theories and practices in art and design education, integrated studio experiences in variety of media, classroom teaching experiences as well as community services. The pre-service teachers are trained to provide on-site learning experiences and educational programmes in venues such as museums and art galleries in addition to series of academic visits to renowned cultural institutions in Malaysia. Flair in technology is also deemed important, hence, these future teachers are equipped with the ability to plan and implement lessons through the use of new media and technology.  

The three-month school placement during the final year provides students with rich understanding of the reality of teaching profession and teaches them valuable experience in the application of content and pedagogy of Visual Arts teaching.  During this attachment, students are required to carry out an academic exercise, a small-scale research on teaching and learning that leads to the production of a mini thesis.    

The employment opportunities are diverse and dynamic.  The job market includes employment in various educational institutions: local and foreign; private institutions, government-linked schools or government agencies.  Our alumni are of various professional backgrounds consisting of academics from schools, public and private tertiary institutions, artists and executives.

 

MASTER OF EDUCATION IN TEACHING ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ED 770)

The Master of Education in Teaching English as a Second Language (M.Ed. TESL) trains candidates to be skilled and qualified teachers who are able to contribute to the upgrading of the teaching of English in Malaysia. In addition, the degree will also provide opportunities for graduates to explore other areas related to language and training such as broadcasting, advertising, and training. The duration of study is 3-4 semesters for the full-time mode and 4-6 semesters  for the part-time mode. The programme of study includes courses in Education and Human Development, Research Methodology, Statistical Analysis for Educational Researchers, Research Seminar and Practices and Reflections in TESL, The Language of Academic Discourse, Sociolinguistics in Multicultural Society, Trends in Testing, Measurement and Evaluation in ELT, and Theories and Practices in ESP. Students also take two electives and have to complete a dissertation.

 

MASTER OF EDUCATION IN EDUCATIONAL MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP (ED 705)

The Master of Education in Educational Management and Leadership is specially designed to produce knowledgeable, skillful, and capable educational leaders in an effort to upgrade the teaching, learning, and management of educational institutions. To achieve this objective, the programme structure concentrates on pertinent areas of educational management such as; instructional leadership, strategic planning, policy and educational planning, effective communication skills, human resource management, quality management, research and current development. The programme structure was developed using rigorous methodologies and intensive consultation with various stakeholders in the field concerned. To enhance the quality of the learning outcomes, the programme is taught by a combination of academics, senior public and private educational managers and where possible, accomplished educational executives, and  international visiting academics.

 

MASTER OF EDUCATION IN VISUAL ARTS   (ED 702)

The Master of Education (Visual Arts Education) aims to produce professional visual art educators who will help shape the coming generation to reach their fullest potential in terms of cognitive, emotional, and creative capacities.  The courses offered cover areas related to the field of art and design education that includes contemporary models, interactive multimedia, assessment, theories and practices, current issues and ideas, visual and cross-cultural studies, and  aesthetics and art criticism. Visual Art Education Research Project is a compulsory project that will enhance critical thinking skills among students, along with cognitive development and academic achievement.

DS 240 Bachelor of Dental Surgery

The BDS Programme uses combination of several education philosophies: Student-centered learning; Patient-centered learning; Problem-based learning; and Competency-based learning. These combinations of innovative concepts are formulated based on strong evidence of its effectiveness throughout the dental education. This is to ensure the curriculum is parallel to current needs and looking into future demands. The courses are taught and assessed with various styles and methods respectively. Teaching approaches adopted consist of didactic problem based learning, utilizing outcome based education with emphasis on student-centered and patient-centered learning. Vertical integrations of basic medical and dental subjects in Year 1 and 2 are applied in preclinical and clinical practice. Professional development directed to generic competencies encompasses cognitive, psychomotor and affective aspects are incorporated in all courses in the programme. Assessment is maintained as part of the learning process via several modes. Upon completion of this programme, graduate will be conferred ‘Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS)’ which will be entitled to practice General Dentistry.

DS 750 Master of Dental Science

The Master of Dental Science (by research) programme is a research work leading to the submission of a thesis. Students are admitted throughout the year. Research topic proposed must be in consultation with principle supervisor prior to admission into the programme. The intake for this programme is twice a year (every July and December).

DS 931 Doctor of Clinical Dentistry in Orthodontics

The programme provides comprehensive knowledge and training in Orthodontics and DentofacialOrthopaedics based on prescribed professional code of conduct. The candidates will be exposed to different and latest Orthodontic treatment modalities including interdisciplinary management. The programme will be carried out in 4 years of intensive clinical and dissertation components. The research project commences in first year and will be submitted in the fourth year. The candidates are encouraged to present and publish the research findings in high impact journals. Teaching methodology consists of lectures, seminars, laboratory and clinical sessions. The programme assessment methods include evaluation of clinical performance, written examination and clinical viva as well as evaluation of dissertation upon submission. Clinical attachment is arranged in the Ministry of Health specialist clinics and also other premises which would include overseas clinics. Orthodontists registered with Ministry of Health will supervise these clinical sessions who helps the candidates to establish proficiency in clinical Orthodontics. Candidates who are doing clinical attachment overseas will be supervised by their respective clinicians appointed by the faculty. The candidates are expected to perform competent clinical skills with interdisciplinary approach and well equipped with scholarly academic knowledge in Orthodontics and DentofacialOrthopaedics.

DS 950 Doctor of Philosophy in Dentistry

The degree in Doctor of Philosophy programme is awarded based on a successful research work leading to the submission of a thesis. Faculty of Dentistry promotes exploration of new opportunities and knowledgethrough research. Facilities provided for staff and students will enhance their ability to think, create, and move forward. Students are enrolled throughout the year after proper consultation with the prospective supervisor and faculty. Research topic proposed must be discussed and agreed by prospective principle supervisor prior to admission into the programme. Candidates who successfully completed the programme will have opportunities to be part of the education-based or industrial-based sectors.

DIPLOMA IN CREATIVE TECHNOLOGY (SCREEN)

Diploma in Creative Technology (Screen) is a two and a half year programme that focuses on the studies and processes involved in preparing content for film, television and digital media. In creating a balance between theory and practice, students learn the art of filmmaking from pre-production, production up to post-production. The Diploma programme is align with the demands of the industry as students are given hands-on training throughout their course of study.

DIPLOMA IN CREATIVE TECHNOLOGY (CREATIVE WRITING)

The Diploma in Creative Technology (Creative Writing) exposes students to the art and technique of writing for the screen and stage, as well as that of creative writing in the form of short stories, novels, poetry and other forms of literature. Throughout the two and a half year programme, students learn the rhetorics of writing, develop their creative writing skills and by the end of their studies produce their own creative works. Students share their creative works through both print and digital media.

DIPLOMA IN CREATIVE TECHNOLOGY (THEATRE)

The two-and-a-half-year Diploma in Creative Technology (Theatre) offers a multi disciplinary approach with courses and learning experiences that cover traditional and new technology for stage performance. Students learn bottom-up as to the workings of a theatre production from the basics of acting, directing, dance and creative movement for theatre to that of design and scenography. By the end of the course, students confidently organize and perform credible theatre pieces for the public and explore the skills working in the creative arts.

DIPLOMA IN CREATIVE TECHNOLOGY (ARTS MANAGEMENT)

A Diploma in Creative Technology (Arts Management) teaches students the fundamentals of managing the creative arts. From managing stage performances, film productions and mini concerts to gallery management, students obtain managerial skills in dealing with national and international shows, programmes and projects. Managerial skills in organizing and executing arts projects are critical in ensuring that the output of each art form is up to required standards and expectations. Students learn to manage and organize the creative arts in a constructive manner.

BACHELOR OF CREATIVE TECHNOLOGY (HONS.) SCREEN

A Bachelor of Creative Technology (Hons.) Screen is a three-year programme. At this phase of study, it is of higher level as the programme teaches students to develop analytical and critical skills as a means of establishing higher order thinking skills. Appreciation and analysis of the films and theories of their construct are of main emphasis, after which students then proceed to apply this knowledge. The challenge of the degree programme is the ability to build and create appealing content for the mass audience through film, television and animation.

BACHELOR OF CREATIVE TECHNOLOGY (HONS.) CREATIVE WRITING

Bachelor of Creative Technology (Hons.) Creative Writing provides students to further develop and enhance their writing skills. At this level, the programme teaches students to build the foundation of analytical and critical thinking skills as a means of ensuring the quality of future writing work. From theory to application, students write and create various forms of writing texts to be discussed and further developed. It too stands as a three-year programme.

BACHELOR OF CREATIVE TECHNOLOGY (HONS.) THEATRE

The Bachelor of Creative Technology (Hons.) Theatre is a programme that enhances students’ skills in their understanding of the cultural arts. Students are exposed to traditional and modern theatre production as a form of conservation as well as Western and Asian theatre as a means of expanding their horizons. The ability to understand and appreciate the diversity of theatre itself allows students to develop a critical perspective of the art. Students are also exposed to theory and application skills of acting, directing, dance and creative movement, as well as theatre craft, scenography and theatre technology. This three-year theatre bachelor degree programme allows students to plan the future of the creative industry as they become part of it and watch it grow.

BACHELOR OF CREATIVE TECHNOLOGY (HONS.) ARTS MANAGEMENT

Arts management through the Bachelor of Creative Technology (Hons.) Arts Management programme is the organizational foundation of any creative art. The three-year programme allows for the structuring and execution of film, theatre and animation productions, and the organization of creative events such as concerts and cultural performances. The programme develops students’ managerial skills as they work in teams in order to ensure the success of a given task or project.

BACHELOR OF CREATIVE TECHNOLOGY (HONS.) ANIMATION AND SCREEN TECHNOLOGY

Drawings that move, talk, sing and dance, have always fascinated people regardless of their age. This is the world of animation, where characters are given distinct personalities to act out entertaining stories. The three-year Bachelor of Creative Technology (Hons.) Animation and Screen Technology programme teaches students not only the craft of creating animation scripts and characters, but also the transfer of words into pictures and creating storyboards which are the blueprint of any animation production.

The course exposes students to the aesthetics of storytelling, with a look at how animators solve problems through creativity. Students will also understand the concepts of posing and posturing of figures, which are integral parts of acting in animation. Students in this programme have access to the latest software and animation facilities, making it easier for them to master the techniques of animation. Their challenge, then, is to create the illusion of life by not only using drawings but also real objects and computer software.
