About RMI
IRDC originally was created to manage research, consultancy, intellectual property protection and commercialisation. However, in March 2008 a new deputy Vice Chancellor’s post was formed and took over the intellectual property and commercialisation portfolio. In return, IRDC was entrusted to enhance innovation and increase the rate of research outputs to be published in high impact journals.
Thus, IRDC was renamed
Research Management Institute (RMI). This new structure was officially launched on the 31st July 2008. In line with UiTM’s aspiration to be a Research University, RMI will initiate new research and innovation activities. The divisions of RMI are responsible to manage, monitor and implement science and technology research, social science and management research, consultancy, finance for consultancy, innovation, publication and INFOREC (Information for Research and Consultancy).
RMI conducts seminars, workshops and roadshows to encourage, motivate and train the academics and non-academic staff on research and consultancy, securing research grants and projects, managing their finances well and publishing research work in a manner that is responsible and ethical. RMI also organises competitions to encourage innovations and inventions within the university’s environment.
