It is that time of the year yet again when the spirit of sovereignty is at its peak. Our beloved Malaysia celebrates her 53rd birthday tomorrow, 31st August 2010. As citizens of this blessed nation, we have so much to be thankful for, that in spite of our diversity – in creed and conviction, in colour and culture – together we have made a safe harbour out of this land, a spot on earth to defend and be proud of. We may have our differences and personal preferences, but in the face of such diverse dispositions, oftentimes we would rise to the occasion, in our own individual ways, in defence of and in deference to our homeland.

Thus, it is with great pride that I wish everyone in UiTM and friends of UiTM, Selamat Hari Merdeka. Let us pay homage to this land and to those who have perished defending it and thus have made it possible for us to reap the rewards of Merdeka. Let us never stop counting our blessings and be counted among those who take pride in celebrating 53 years of peace and harmony. Let us speak in one voice and work towards making tomorrow better than today for Malaysia, and Malaysians – whatever their station in life. Let us celebrate a lifetime of achievements that have taken Malaysia and Malaysians to greater heights in innumerable endeavours and a myriad of fields that ride above adversaries and go beyond geographical boundaries.

I pray to Allah SWT that UiTM will remain true to our reason for being, however different our stance on issues or our perception of issues, for it is inevitable that what we accomplish in UiTM in the spirit of Merdeka, are accomplishments of a nation that prides itself in being a model of indigenous empowerment through the acquisition of knowledge that transcends a multitude of disciplines.
